Public Works
Streets, water, trash, and everything underneath.
Our mission
To build and maintain the infrastructure Pawnee depends on: safe streets, clean water, reliable sanitation, and a sewer system we would prefer you not think about, because we think about it constantly so you don't have to.
Public Works maintains 340 miles of streets, the municipal water and sewer systems, curbside trash and recycling collection, snow removal, and the city's street tree inventory.
The department also coordinates long-range capital planning with the City Planner's office, including the ongoing Pawnee Commons district streetscape program.
Leadership

Gene Yoder
Director, Public Works
Gene Yoder oversees streets, sanitation, water, and the municipal sewage system. A 28-year veteran of the department, he maintains that the fourth floor of City Hall is a normal floor and that people should stop asking about it.

Mark Brendanawicz
City Planner
Mark Brendanawicz reviews site plans, zoning variances, and capital construction projects. He returned to city service after several years in private-sector construction, citing a desire for "honestly, just a steady paycheck," which the city appreciates for its candor.
