Mayor Garry Gergich

Mayor Gergich has served the City of Pawnee for more than thirty years in a wide variety of roles, several of which were listed under different first names due to clerical errors. He is a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and is widely regarded as the kindest man in municipal government.

Elected in a citywide landslide, Mayor Gergich has focused his administration on neighborhood beautification, senior services, and personally greeting every visitor to City Hall, a practice the security office has learned to accommodate. His annual State of the City address is beloved for its warmth, its optimism, and its average length of six minutes.

The Mayor is an accomplished painter and photographer whose work hangs in the third-floor gallery, near the plaque case. He is married to Gayle, and they have three daughters. He makes, by broad consensus, the finest breakfast in Pawnee.

Mayoral initiatives

  • Pawnee Says Hello — a neighborhood greeting program with 4,100 registered greeters.
  • Murals With Context — the ongoing interpretive signage project at the City Hall gallery.
  • Operation Correct Nameplate — a joint effort with Procurement, now in its fourth year.
In Memoriam

The Office of the Mayor honors the memory of Mayor Walter Gunderson, who served the City of Pawnee with distinction. The Gunderson Memorial Reading Room at the Main Library is open to the public during regular hours.
