PAWNEE, Ind. — The Lafayette Senior Center's annual euchre championship concluded Friday after a seven-hour final match, the longest in the tournament's 41-year history.
The match required an official ruling on a disputed loner call, which was referred to City Clerk Ethel Beavers under tournament bylaws naming the Clerk as arbiter of record. Beavers, reached at her desk, issued the ruling without looking up.
The champions received the traveling trophy and a gift certificate to JJ's Diner. The runners-up received a smaller gift certificate to JJ's Diner and, per tradition, one year of gentle needling.
